Azrak - JJ Valaya, Grand Finale WIFW, A/W2012

Celebrating the 20th year in the fashion industry, JJ Valaya’s Grand Finale show (for Wills India Fashion Week, Autumn-Winter 2012), AZRAK was as dazzling as its name.  Turkish for ‘Rare and Uncommon', the collection had a fantastical inspiration of some extraordinary art forms of the ottoman empire simultaneously coalescing  the ancient art form with an urban contemporary wardrobe.

Renowned designers Sumant Jayakrishan, Rohit Bal and Suneet Verma also walked for Valaya in the regal collection which had the famed Valaya Embroideries and custom prints representing the exotic ethnic taste that have been his signature.

The exquisite detailing such as Mother of pearl inlay, Turkish miniatures, Iznik Ceramics, Dramatic weaves of the Sultan’s robes, exotic birds and graphic calligraphy in this collection puts it in a whole new league. There were quilted jackets teamed with breeches and custom print leggings; details of denims in an unusual accord with Gossamer Silk and Velvets complimenting the posh jewellery in uncut diamonds and polka. The Urban Touch of Jackets, Dresses, Shirts, Blouses, Skirts and Breeches were in perfect concurrence with the traditional drapes of Saris and anarkalis for the show that although starting with a monochromatic collection soon had metamorphosed to a more classy vivid palette.

The Show stopper for the Grand Finale for the WIFW Fall Winter 2012, was bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut who was decked in a chic rich ivory gown with a brown and gold velvet coat.
