Bridging the beauty business

In-cosmetics, 16-18 April, Paris expo Porte de Versailles

Beauty blooms in Paris, and no place is more appropriate than the city for the beauty industry to come together under one umbrella. The 2013 edition of the In- Cosmetics personal care ingredients show, which was organised by Reed Exhibitions. The show boasts of a footfall of over 9,400 visitors from around the globe, which is a 20% increase on the previous record for visitor numbers. With 650 exhibitors, among whom the show saw over 100 new companies, a massive 60% travelled to Paris from outside France to discover new ingredients, formulations and an extensive educational programme.

"As a first time exhibitor at in-cosmetics, we are delighted with the response we’ve had from visitors during the first day of the show – especially those from Korea and Brazil. These are two expanding markets so to have interest from businesses in these regions is very reassuring,” comments Jason Drener, Sales Manager, Sandream.

Big names like L'Oreal, Unilever and Dow Cornings among others were seen to visit the show to connect to the buyers from across continents. L’Oreal’s Raw Material Purchasing Manager Philippe Provost notes, “It’s really important to meet with suppliers face-to-face and in-cosmetics is a great place to do this.”

Chosen to tie in with 2013’s status as the UN’s International Year of Water Co-operation, the theme of the Paris event was H20. Visitors were invited to follow a trail around the hall that highlighted the new technologies, formulations and product concepts currently employing water inventively. A ‘Testing and Regulation Zone’ also housed first-time exhibitors specialising in this increasingly important sector of the personal care industry offering advice and support on cosmetics safety, efficacy, claims, quality and regulatory compliance.

The new features were rounded off by the ‘Fragrance in Cosmetics Zone’, a dedicated area where exhibitors specialising in the science and art of fragrance were concentrated.

Workshops, Seminars and Sessions
The 2013 series of Workshops, Innovation Seminars and Marketing Trends sessions were designed to inform and educate attendees on the issues currently impacting the industry. Offering insight from suppliers on the latest ingredients, case studies from international companies and the experience of industry experts.

Awards
The awards ceremony at the end of the first day saw Dr Karl Lintner, who was announced as the winner of in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award. Induchem’s new ingredient Neodermyl was declared as the winner of in-cosmetics’ Innovation Zone Best Ingredient Award.
Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine also announced the winners of its R&D Awards with Yves Saint Laurent Beauté taking the Most Creative Application for Youth Liberator Range with Glycanactif and Dow Corning the Best New Ingredient for EL-7040 Hydro Elastor Blend.

Speaking about the show, Eric Giniaux, Global Procurement Manager at Unilever France, adds “The Paris show is always excellent, presenting a good opportunity to meet suppliers.”. The next in-cosmetics take place in Hamburg, Germany 1-3 April 2014, and it is hoped that the businesses will get the same kind of networking opportunities as the Paris edition has seen.
